Neuroaesthetics: Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder

Neuroaesthetics, a recent field of study derived from neuroscience research intends to explore in depth the brain’s response to art and beauty.  A modern example of an interdisciplinary field of study, neuroaesthetics raises many questions about it’s accuracy in understanding the neural mechanics of contemplating both art and beauty.

Where Science and Art Meet

Described by many as a convergence of empirical aesthetics ⏤ a branch of psychology focused on the study of observing aesthetics ⏤ and neuroscience, this innovative new discipline also takes root in an unlikely area, art. Despite being perceived as two vastly different topics, science and art have quite a lot in common. Both are human attempts to understand and describe our world explains Forbes Magazine. Science is even used in many works of art and science too also frequently references art.

Why It’s Needed

We need neuroaesthetics mainly because it can help us further understand ourselves and how our brains work. Furthermore it can help art by creating new forms and revolutionizing it. I look forward to seeing what neuroaesthetics accomplishes in the near future.
