My name is Sarah Wilkinson. I’m fifteen years old, I attend a small french school called École Secondaire Jules-Verne and I’m in tenth grade. In school, I’ve always liked math and science — it has always been more interesting to me.
Ever since I was a kid, I was amazed by astronomy. Some nights I would look up at the stars and wonder what was up there… if there was something wondering the same thing about us.
Some of my other favorite branches of science include medicine/health, chemistry, engineering and mathematics.
A bit about me
I have a 19-year-old sister, Emily. She is now at UBCO (UBC Okanagan campus), so I’m sort of an only child at the moment.

I love music : I can play many instruments including piano, ukulele, clarinet, trumpet, oboe, bass, and others, but my favorite instrument to play is the guitar. I know how to play songs like “Here Comes the Sun”, “Hey There Delilah”, “Blackbird” and “Stairway to Heaven”. Playing and learning new songs on the guitar are things that I really enjoy doing.
During the last year, my best friend and I have started to rebuild a 1961 Pontiac Parisienne. We started last December and expect to be finished by summer 2019. It’s been really fun so far, but I think the most interesting part is coming : we’re almost at the point where we put it back together.
I also love playing sports, although my schedule is too tight to play on any school teams. Here are some my favorite sports :
- Ultimate Frisbee
- Hockey
- Handball
- Badminton
- Dance
- Karate
- Hiking
- Kayaking
- Cycling
My family and I are huge fans of camping — we go at least three times during our summer vacations. It’s my favorite kind of trip to do, whether it’s driving across the province, kayaking through the Broken Islands off the coast of Vancouver Island, or hiking across the ridge of Black Tusk.

Why I joined FSL
Since I go to a small french school (that no one really knows), I don’t get many opportunities to be a part of an English program like FSL. This program will allow to meet new people outside of the french schoolboard.
This program will also allow me to learn about science in different and more interactive ways.
