School is in full swing, and needless to say, I find myself staying up for those late-night study sessions. To survive these, I turn to my savior, tea. But what about tea help me get through? Caffeine.
It’s a morbid thought, that humans may one day no longer walk the planet. But in reality, we all face extinction at any day, whether it be by a rampaging killer-disease, or a black hole. Humans are a relatively new race compared to some animals, but mass extinctions have occurred in the past and who’s to say it won’t happen again?
But what if we do live? If we overcome all the hardships, and the human race does survive all the threats that has been thrown onto its path. What if we survived for 100, 000 years into the future? Would we look any different?
Admittedly, I have lied. You have lied. We all have, whether we are aware of it or not. Our parents and teachers from a young age have taught us the repercussions of lying, yet, why do we do it?
When I was in Grade 2, my parents were called in to talk to my teacher. This scared me quite a bit, I mean sure I maybe-accidently pushed that kid while playing soccer cause he “missed the ball” and “accidentally” hit my shin, but other than that, I was a pretty good student and I didn’t see why the teacher had to talk to my parents. My parents went inside while I waited, tapping my feet nervously for an anxious 15 minutes. They walked out, their faces’ sullen. My heart was pumping. My mom turned to me and said the sentence which changed my life.
“Hebah, you’re going to need glasses.”
We all know that one person who has the need to crack their knuckles, their knees, their toes, or about anything else which can produce the dreaded ‘crack’ sound. That person is me. I’m always bending my knuckles, turning my back, and crossing my fingers to produce the satisfying ‘crack’. I’ve heard many varying opinions about whether cracking your joints has an effect on you. Does it really?
I recently participated in my first research study as a volunteer. It wasn’t as frightening of an experience as I imagined, and the misconception of being in a soundproof metal cage, watched like a lab rat was somewhat cleared. The study aimed to explore the range of emotions that can be elicited from babysitting a crying doll for 2 hours. During the 2 hour period, I was isolated and attempted to sooth the crying infant doll with whichever method I preferred, and also using the props provided in the babysitting area. To be honest, I have never held a crying baby for more than 5 seconds, so I was nervous about the prospect of taking care of one for a greater amount of time than I can spend around my 6 year old brother.
I don’t consider myself a tea addict. Sure, I carry around my white stainless steel Davidstea infuser everywhere I go. And yes, if you open my kitchen cupboard you’ll find a plethora of green tea tins. I know the difference between jasmine, oolong, and black teas. And I turn to tea as my saviour for those late-night study sessions. My mom even banned me from teas when I started getting re-occurring headaches. Does that make me a tea addict?
I think we’re at a point in time where it is socially acceptable to ask someone out by saying “I like yo’ face”. But what kind of face exactly is so spectacular that it deserves such a borderline aggressive complement? We’ve all wondered occasionally if we are considered physically attractive, but it doesn’t matter because beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…right? It turns out, if beauty was a number, it would be the number 0.
You wave hello to your neighbor across the street while you throw out the trash. You look for your friend at the library, where you were going to study for that Chem test you have tomorrow. You quickly duck behind your co-worker as you see your boss walking by because you didn’t finish that report you had to hand in today. You check your reflection in the mirror as you walk by it in the mall.
The ability to recognize faces is involuntary. Throughout the day, we constantly rely on our brain to pick out faces, and without this reflex action, life would be pretty confusing. [Read more…]
