As detectives of the Future Science Leaders Crime Scene Investigation, our 3D team has been given our very first case: the mysterious death of Lovdeep Citrine, CEO of Flying Colors. We concluded that victim Lovdeep was first poisoned by his ex-wife Mulan Vermillion and likely later stabbed to death by his son Christopher Citrine. In our hunt for the truth, we have worked diligently to put together this report to explain our reasoning.
First, we are left with the following summary of the event:
- On September 22 2014 at 1:35pm, a distress call was made as Lovdeep was found in a Boeing 777 airplane bathroom slumped across a sink with a shard of mirror pierced in his shoulder.
- The bathroom was destroyed with the mirror broken, facet torn off, and footprints along the wall.
- A substantial amount of blood had accumulated around the body but was also in the form of drops on the walls, ceiling and floor. In addition some blood was smeared close to the bathroom door.
- Immediately, first officers arrived followed by medical personnel. At 2:17 Lovdeep was officially pronounced dead.
- The Coroner Report suggests Lovedeep died from exsanguination
Along with the summary we able to collect some evidence from the scene:
- A collection of fingerprints with two sets on rat poison, one set on arsenic vial, and a smeared fingerprint on the bathroom door.
- DNA samples on a glove near the drain cleaner, blood from the bathroom door, and blood near the entry door that is from someone unrelated to Lovedeep.
- A sample of Lovdeep’s stomach contents.
With all this information we are left with a reasonable list of possible suspects:

Possible Motive: Wants Lovdeep out so he can be the man for Carol.
EVIDENCE AND DISCARDED EVIDENCE
Our suspects and their possible motives came from an overwhelming case of evidence. According to the Coroner Report, victim Lovdeep Citrine had spontaneous bruising, haematoma formation and frank hemorrhage, especially from the genitourinary and gastrointestinal tracts. These factors all fit in with 4-hydroxycoumarin poisoning. A concentration of 4-hydroxycoumarin higher than the minimum concentration to cause severe hemorrhage effects was also found through TLC in Lovdeep’s stomach contents. Therefore, we believe that Lovdeep must have consumed 4-hydroxycoumarin, a chemical found in rat poison.
In addition, there were fingerprints from two sets of rat poison and one set of arsenic vial collected from the FSL restaurant and the Skylette office. According to our fingerprint analysis, we found that one set of rat poison had fingerprints that attributed to Austin, another set of rat poison attributed to Mulan, and the set of arsenic vial attributed to Yoyo. Given Lovdeep’s adulation towards FSL, he must have been to the restaurant a few hours prior to his airplane celebration party. This would have been the perfect time for Mulan to sneak poison into his meal as she works at FSL and holds a lot of anger due to Lovdeep’s constant bad treatment to her. Arsenic was consumed by Lovdeep prior to his death because his stomach contents smelled like garlic, which states that there is arsenic and/or phosphorus in his body. Phosphorus is a poison often used in rat poison. Also, drain cleaner that contained sodium hydroxide were found in the FSL kitchen, with low concentrations found in the large bag of flour and mixing bowl. This contamination we believe to be accidental, as the concentration is too low to have severe effects on the body and the fact that the entire bag of flour was contaminated means that Lovdeep was not specifically targeted.
In our analysis of Lovdeep’s stomach contents, we found a pill that likely contained codeine, a drug that is used to relieve pain. Additionally, streaks of pink were found inside Lovdeep’s stomach contents which could mean that he was bleeding internally as well due to the poisoning.
We know that Lovdeep died from exsanguination, bleeding to death. Science in 3D has gathered enough information to suspect Christopher as the possible murderer of Lovdeep Citrine because of the following evidence: There was blood found near the bathroom door, and the DNA matches exactly to that of Christopher. In the bathroom, the faucet was torn off, the mirror was shattered, and blood was everywhere. These signs point to a struggle. We believe that Christopher may not have premeditated killing his father, but perhaps it was a spur of the moment when he was confronting his father with anger towards how Lovdeep forced him to sell his Internet company and how his father married Carol. Christopher must have used the mirror to stab his father multiple times and killing him in the process because he has a cut on his hand; statistics prove that stabbing someone several times will likely cause one to cut their hand, especially between the thumb and the index finger. In this struggle and murder, Christopher must have accidentally left his blood by the bathroom door. The smeared fingerprint collected from the door handle at the crime scene is very similar in shape and light/shadow patterns to Christopher’s fingerprint. (That is the most that can be said, however.) He probably tried to wipe off the blood stains, which resulted in the blood and fingerprint smears in the bathroom.
We believe that Alice, Jastina, and Christina are free of guilt because they are unlikely to confront and fight Lovdeep. Carol is unlikely to have killed Lovdeep too because she is pregnant with Lovdeep’s child (the DNA matches) and she would not risk her child and pregnancy. Austin could not have stabbed Lovdeep because he probably was not at the 777 airplane opening (as only Lovdeep’s closest friends and family were invited), and he cares too much about the reputation of his restaurant to intentionally poison Lovdeep. Yoyo could not have killed Christopher either because she is unlikely to confront Lovdeep and fight with him. Adrian was nowhere near the crime scene, and he has no reason to kill Lovdeep. Leal Fuschia might have had incentive in killing Lovdeep because he perhaps wants to take over the Flying Colours business, but we do not believe that he would go right out and kill Lovdeep as he just recently reconnected with Lovdeep and is still negotiating to return to the airline. Lastly, the blood found by the boundary of the murder may not be linked to the murder and it might just be blood from before the murder (e.g. cuts while renovating the airplane and setting it up for the party). It is unlikely that it is linked to the murder because the blood drops were near the boundary and if it was connected to Lovdeep’s death, there would a trail of blood rather than drops far from the area of Lovdeep’s murder.
A PLAUSIBLE SCENARIO
According to the aforementioned evidence we had gathered, we concluded that the victim, Lovdeep Citrine, was likely intentionally poisoned at least a few hours prior to being stabbed to death in the airplane bathroom.
Our suspect for the poisoning, Mulan Vermillion, has easy access to rat poison (4-hydroxycoumarin) as an employee of the FSL restaurant, a fact which is proven by her fingerprint found on the rat poison collected at the restaurant. She also has ample motives for killing her former husband Lovdeep because of her resentment at his continued bad treatment of her, possibly triggered by a recent dispute with him about their daughters’ choices. We believe that on the morning of Sep 22, the tension and anger between Lovdeep and Mulan came to a head, with Lovdeep texting to her: “Why do you have to control everything?” Lovdeep is known for his incredible affection for the FSL restaurant and is likely have eaten breakfast there the day of his death. Therefore, it is very probable that Mulan slipped rat poison into Lovdeep’s meal that morning, using her position as manager hostess to avoid detection.
A few hours later, the painful effects of the 4-hydroxycoumarin poisoning would have become apparent to Lovdeep. Unknowing of the fact that he had been poisoned, Lovdeep likely mistook the hemorrhage and pain for a simple stomach ache and took a painkiller pill containing codeine to try to treat it. This is indicated by the pill, blood streaks, and low concentration codeine found in his stomach contents.
That early afternoon, Lovdeep hosted a party inside a brand-new airplane– we can assume that his family and business partners were present. From there on, we can only speculate what exactly triggered the murder. It is well-known that Lovdeep had not been kind to his son Christopher, forcing him to sell his internet company and marrying his former girlfriend Carol, so Christopher has sufficient motive for the murder. Perhaps influenced by the alcohol at the party, Lovdeep could have said words that fueled Christopher’s hatred of him and lead to an argument that turned confrontational. An airplane mechanic, Christopher knows how to unlock the bathroom door from the outside in order to confront his father in the privacy of the bathroom. Heated words may have been exchanged inside, leading to a fistfight that broke the mirror. (This explains the signs of struggle.) Seeing a broken piece of glass, Christopher likely seized it in rage and stabbed Lovdeep in the shoulder, fatally wounding him. He cut himself in the process, leaving a drop of blood near the bathroom door. It is plausible that he then tried to clean up his blood and fingerprints hastily (and unsuccessfully) before fleeing the scene.
In conclusion, after analyzing the evidence collected and the possible motives and alibis of suspects, our group believes that Mulan Vermillion should be charged with attempted murder for poisoning victim Lovdeep Citrine. Christopher Citrine should be charged with second degree murder for his crime of passion in stabbing Lovdeep, as it was the blood loss from stabbing that ultimately killed Lovdeep. However, we believe that it is wise to postpone charges until after an important piece of evidence comes to light– the DNA from the blood drops found near the plane entrance door, which so far we know does not match the DNA of Lovdeep or his family members. This will likely prove to be unrelated to the murder, but we cannot eliminate the possibility of it indicating other suspects for the stabbing of Lovdeep.
