Happy October 3rd or as some would call it Mean Girls Appreciation Day!
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, there is an iconic scene in the 2004 cult classic (also one of my childhood favourites) Mean Girls where the love interest (Aaron Samuels) asks the main character (Cady) what day it is. As a result, on October 3rd all Mean Girls fans celebrate.
If you are not familiar with the movie, it is about a previously home-schooled 16 year old who moves into a new school and becomes intertwined in a dilemma involving the most popular girls in the school, “The Plastics”. While the movie becomes more of a coming-of-age story it also presents an exaggerated perspective on the social atmosphere of a high school. The part of the movie I found especially intriguing was when Janis shows Cady the different social groups in the lunchroom. She goes table by table explaining each group to her, which got me thinking.
Why do humans form exclusive social groups?
