As I was flipping through all the magazines piled up from last year, one of the articles that is on Science caught my attention. On the special articles on the breakthrough of the year, scientists had tested if we can manipulate mice’s memories. I found this both interesting and scary, so I decided to do my blog on it.
Most of us have probably been associated with either one of the term left-brained or right-brained at least one time in our lives. A common way that people assume is their more dominant side of the brain, is that if you are left handed, you are right brained and if you are right handed, you are left brained. Yet, is that always the case?
Happy October 3rd or as some would call it Mean Girls Appreciation Day!
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, there is an iconic scene in the 2004 cult classic (also one of my childhood favourites) Mean Girls where the love interest (Aaron Samuels) asks the main character (Cady) what day it is. As a result, on October 3rd all Mean Girls fans celebrate.
If you are not familiar with the movie, it is about a previously home-schooled 16 year old who moves into a new school and becomes intertwined in a dilemma involving the most popular girls in the school, “The Plastics”. While the movie becomes more of a coming-of-age story it also presents an exaggerated perspective on the social atmosphere of a high school. The part of the movie I found especially intriguing was when Janis shows Cady the different social groups in the lunchroom. She goes table by table explaining each group to her, which got me thinking.
Why do humans form exclusive social groups?
So all day I’ve been annoyed with the fact that I have no idea what to write about. I mean, this generally doesn’t happen to me. I’m a pretty opinionated person with at least 144 completely random and useless thoughts flowing throughout my head per day. So why now when I finally have a deadline for something I completely blank out and instead decide that it’s much better to watch baby sloths taking a bath, or spend an hour on this wonderful website.
